79. Surah An-Nazi'at
Those who drag forth

In the name of God, the Almighty, the Merciful.

Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem

By those who remove by drowning

WannaziAAati gharqa

And those who draw forth by extracting!

Wannashitati nashta

By those ever-swimming,

Wassabihati sabha

And the foremost vanguard,

Fassabiqati sabqa

And the arrangers of a matter!

Falmudabbirati amra

On the day the convulsion convulses

Yawma tarjufu arrajifa

There will follow it the second.

TatbaAAuha arradifa

Hearts, that day, will tremble,

Quloobun yawma-ithin wajifa

Their eyes humbled.

Absaruha khashiAAa

(They say: “Are we to be returned to our former state,

Yaqooloona a-inna lamardoodoona feealhafira

Even when we are decayed bones?”

A-itha kunna AAithamannakhira

They say: “That, then, would be a losing return!”)

Qaloo tilka ithan karratun khasira

And there will be but one cry

Fa-innama hiya zajratun wahida

And then will they be awakened.

Fa-itha hum bissahira

Has there come to thee the account of Moses?

Hal ataka hadeethu moosa

When his Lord called him in the sacred valley of Ṭuwa:

Ith nadahu rabbuhu bilwadialmuqaddasi tuwa

“Go thou to Pharaoh; he has transgressed.

Ithhab ila firAAawna innahu tagha

“And say thou: ‘Wouldst thou purify thyself,

Faqul hal laka ila an tazakka

“‘And that I guide thee to thy Lord, so thou shalt fear?’”

Waahdiyaka ila rabbika fatakhsha

And he showed him the greatest proof,

Faarahu al-ayata alkubra

But he denied and opposed.

Fakaththaba waAAasa

Then turned he away in haste,

Thumma adbara yasAAa

And gathered and called,

Fahashara fanada

And said: “I am your most high Lord.”

Faqala ana rabbukumu al-aAAla

So God seized him in exemplary punishment of the latter and the former.

Faakhathahu Allahu nakalaal-akhirati wal-oola

In that is a lesson for him who fears.

Inna fee thalika laAAibratan limanyakhsha

Are you harder in creation, or the sky? He built it;

Aantum ashaddu khalqan ami assamaobanaha

He raised the ceiling thereof, and fashioned it;

RafaAAa samkaha fasawwaha

And He made dark its night, and brought forth its morning.

Waaghtasha laylaha waakhraja duhaha

And the earth, after that, He spread it out;

Wal-arda baAAda thalikadahaha

He brought forth therefrom its water and its pasture;

Akhraja minha maahawamarAAaha

And the mountains He set firmly

Waljibala arsaha

As enjoyment for you and for your cattle.

MataAAan lakum wali-anAAamikum

Then, when the Greatest Calamity comes:

Fa-itha jaati attammatualkubra

The day man will remember for what he strove,

Yawma yatathakkaru al-insanu masaAAa

And Hell will be made manifest to him who sees: —

Waburrizati aljaheemu liman yara

Then as for him who transgressed,

Faamma man tagha

And preferred the life of this world:

Waathara alhayata addunya

Hell will be the shelter.

Fa-inna aljaheema hiya alma/wa

And as for him who feared the station of his Lord and restrained his soul from vain desire:

Waama man khafa maqamarabbihi wanaha annafsa AAani alhawa

The Garden will be the shelter.

Fa-inna aljannata hiya alma/wa

They ask thee about the Hour: “When is its arrival?”

Yas-aloonaka AAani assaAAatiayyana mursaha

What is any reminder thereof to thee?

Feema anta min thikraha

To thy Lord is the finality thereof.

Ila rabbika muntahaha

Thou art but the warner of him who fears it.

Innama anta munthiru manyakhshaha

It will be, the day they see it, as though they had not tarried save a day’s end or a morning thereof.

Kaannahum yawma yarawnaha lamyalbathoo illa AAashiyyatan aw duhaha
